I wrote this one year ago today. My closest friend - someone who was as close to a brother I had down here in NC - died December 5, 2015.

I still miss him.

Life happens. People grow apart. People take one another for granted. People lose touch, and despite their best intentions, don’t often say or show how they appreciate the people who care about them in their lives.

One of my best friends died this morning. I had just texted him last night. It’s normal to forget about someone who was once a huge part of your life when they’re isolated from you.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is, reach out again. A call or a text can mean so much.

This was the last message I sent him. 8 hours later, he died.

Sorry for the loss man. Your sentiment hit home as I have lost/limited contact with some of my best friends from college. People who mattered so much to me, who helped me grow to become who I am and find the life I am lucky to be living now. I’m going to reach out to them today. May your friend rest in peace.

Totally hear you and sympathize. In January it’ll be a year since a good childhood friend of mine that I had lost touch with passed. Every time I think about him, I wish I would have taken a few more opportunities to reach out.

Sorry for your loss.

You know what’s great about modern technology? It makes it so easy to stay in touch. I’ve actually kept up with a lot of my friends, I still talk to my two best from high school a decent amount despite the fact we all live in different states now.

I lost one of my best friends to suicide a few years ago. His suicide shook our (I had already graduated by that time, he was still a Senior) school to its core.

The worst part were the phonies. “Stand Against Bullying” became a trend in the school and everyone was doing it...even the very people who caused his suicide was participating in the sick trend. But the phonies showed themselves very quickly, as they made a “suicide reenactment” video mocking him...and of course, the rest of the phonies never showed up to the 1 year memorial..just his real friends..

I’ve dealt with suicidal depression a lot in my life. While I can’t relate to what outsiders live with today, I dealt with ruthless and relentless bullying throughout elementary and middle school. At least I could escape when I went home. Now kids have to unplug to get a reprieve.

The queers, punks, misfits, and freaks were the only kids who took me as I was. So I guess that is why I feel a kinship with all of the “others” now.

*moar hugs!* Same here. Took me to about...maybe a couple months ago to get to a point in my life where I didn’t dread simply existing day to day.

The queers, punks, misfits, and freaks are cooler than the cool kids anyway...usually we end up becoming the bosses of the cool kids eventually. lol

I had a similar high school experience. I like to tell people that I wasn’t the weirdest kid in school but I did eat lunch with him.
